[ Immediately, Enjolras recognized the shift in her, and held up his hand between them, palm flat and open, as if to stop the train of thought from ever happening at all. ]

I will not hear of any such nonsense, Jade. This is- above all, a gift, and I shall not hear any further arguments towards any payment for it. If you will not accept it, then Grantaire has expressed interest- [ And here, Enjolras made such a face. ] I will not have it, and it isn't exactly something that can be returned.

[ Enjolras hoped, that with this line of reasoning she would understand she had to take it. ]

[Jade has to laugh, turning the keys over in her hand. She's stubborn, Enjolras is a million times more stubborn and she knows she's not winning this argument.]

Let me guess, he can't drive. I've gotta take it to save us all from that disaster.

An engine like this didn't even exist when either of us were alive. I'm not even sure Grantaire can ride a horse, let alone something with a motor.

[ His first forray into driving with Mike Chilton had been nerve-wracking enough; he didn't need to see Grantaire attempting such a feat. ]

It is too terrifying a possibility to even contemplate.

[She glances between Enjolras and the scooter. Now that it's officially hers she wants to get a closer look, but it seems rude to leave him after he'd given her such a generous gift. A generous gift she'd desperately wanted but had never expressed an interest in, at least not to her boss.]

... I can't believe you did this. Dude, how did you know?

Sometimes I am more observant than people give me credit for. [ He knew he could be incredibly dense, but there were some things that even he did not miss. ]

I knew you felt guilty about having me escort you home after your shifts, and so too did I see what stress the bus rides themselves were putting on you. I have seen such vehicles employed throughout the peninsula- and so I had thought having one for your own was an obvious solution.

[She ducks her head with an embarrassed smile. She's less surprised that he noticed, and more surprised that he'd take such an extreme action to fix the problem.]

... It's perfect. Really. I don't know how I'll ever thank you.

Seek you happy, giving you some sense of peace of mind again- it is more than thanks enough. [ He looked soft, and fond then. His signature way of looking happy without actually smiling- though there was a rare hint of it now, pulling the corners of his lips upward. He was most certainly pleased with this outcome.]

[She elbows him lightly, giving him a fond look of her own.]

God, of course you'd say that.

Of course I would. [ He agreed, with a breathy huff of almost-laughter. He looked at the scooter for a moment, and then back to her, a frown passing over his features. ]

I have just one small stipulation. [ He paused, for dramatic effect. ] Don't let Jack drive it.

[Jade laughs, imagining the trouble Jack could cause on a scooter. Enjolras has a point.]

I'll try to keep him away from it. But when the rest of the staff starts asking why they didn't get one, I'm sending them to you.

I'll deal with them. [ And honestly, he didn't foresee any of the others raising it as an issue. If they did, well... Enjolras had a ruthless side, too. ]

[Jade nodded, trusting Enjolras to deal with anyone who might have an issue with it.]

You know, this means you can't complain at all when I give you a Christmas gift.

[starvedorestes]

...I suppose this would be the moment to add that this isn't your Christmas present. [ He looked a little embarrassed to say this, knowing that it would likely be more difficult for Jade to accept a second gift, but... ] This was a bit of an impulse, I confess. Your actual gift will still happen on Christmas.

[Jade shakes her head in disbelief. How many gifts was he planning on giving her?]

And you say I'm stubborn.

[starvedorestes]

Well, the other gifts were pre-planned. This wasn't, so much. And it wouldn't do to have them wait. [ He shrugs a little. ] I would like not to see another Christmas in this place, as I'm sure you can understand.

[Jade grins suddenly, as inspiration strikes.]

Want me to teach you how to drive it? It's only fair after you gave it to me.

[starvedorestes]

[ Enjolras blinks a bit at the offer, a little bit taken aback by the thought. He blanched, a little, his wings shuffling behind him, a sign that he was unsure about the idea. ]

I am not so sure that would be... wise. [ Suddenly, he seemed to be eyeing the scooter with a measure of distrust. ]

Dude, are you afraid of it?

[It's weird to even think about. Jade couldn't imagine Enjolras was afraid of much, certainly not riding on a scooter.]

At least let me give you a ride on it.

[starvedorestes]

Not... afraid, no. [ He shook his head, and sighed a little. Not sure how to explain himself, here. ] ...Old-fashioned, perhaps is a better way of putting it.

[ There was much of technology that he had embraced, since arriving here- but there were still some things that were a little beyond him.

Like driving.

Cars could just go so fast... ]

[Sometimes it's easy to forget that Enjolras is from so long ago. To Jade, Ryslig is old-fashioned, it's hard to imagine that to other people here it's modern.]

So, short skirts and vehicles? Those are the things it's hardest to get used to here?

Among other things. [ He wasn't sure if she was teasing him, now, and he gave her a flat look, huffing softly, his tufted ears flattening closer to his head. He would deny pouting, but the expression was somewhat similar to that, in idea. ]

Flying, for one. [ He stretched his wings for emphasis, reminded once more of the fact he had been in this place for over a year, was just shy of the anniversary of his wings coming in- and he still could not do more than passably glide. ]

[She's definitely teasing, and nearly laughs at his reaction. Sometimes she wishes she still had her phone so she could snap pictures of moments like this.

Her smile's shortlived when he mentions flying. He's not the only one to avoid some of his monster abilities. She offers him a sympathetic smile.]

I can get that. It's weird, right? Having all these new things you can do. I, uh, haven't possessed anyone yet even though I'm pretty sure I could if I wanted.

[ Possession had come easily for Enjolras when he had been a demon. To think of how often he had utilized it turns his stomach to knots, now. Without the change of wickedness that demon had afforded him, to dampen his feelings upon the matter. It was disturbing now to think of how simple it had been. ]

Yes, you could. [ Enjolras agreed softly, sounding somewhat far away. ]

Perhaps it is a waste, in not utilizing what has been forced upon us. [ Soldier had once told him as much. ] Still. I find the thought of flying unsettling.

[Jade winces slightly, remembering that Enjolras is usually a demon, can possess people too and in all likelihood has possessed someone before. Jade's lucky that she hasn't had to yet, she knows that.]

Are there other things you like? Like, I figured out this one awesome thing I can do.

[ For a moment Enjolras is quiet, thoughtful. What does he like about what he is now? Or, what he'd liked as a demon, perhaps... ]

I like being able to shift. Into a cat- a lion. It feels... powerful. Comfortable; like nothing could possibly bother me again. [ He flicked an ear, closing his eyes gently. ] As a demon, teleportation was useful, although it was painful, at times. [ Going up in flame from the inside out usually was, even when flame resistant. ] What about you? What have you found that you find to be awesome?
