[The house is a little quieter now that they're down a roommate, but that's all right. He misses Vanadi, but Jade is still around-- and he quite likes Jade. It's comfortable living with her, easy in a way he hadn't expected. They fall into a rhythm-- he stays up a little later so they can spend time together, watching TV or taking potshots at cans or just relaxing.
Anyway. He comes down from the rooftop one night to find a new addition in their apartment. Sitting on the kitchen table is . . . a sewing machine. A familiar sewing machine-- one of the old kinds he's familiar with, black and gold, with the large wheel. He laughs, more startled than amused, and shoves a hand through his hair.]

[He brushes his fingers over the machine, eyes darting around it.]

[Just a couple months ago, Jade would've assumed the worst with a message like that from her boss, but today the fear of being fired isn't the first thing to come to her mind. She's good at her job, and even if she wasn't, she's 99.9% sure Enjolras wouldn't have the heart to fire her. She's mildly optimistic that maybe Enjolras is messaging her because he's finally saw some sense and needs help with party prep.]

It's a miracle that he doesn't allow that sludge of self-righteousness to solidify and freeze him in place.

[When Jason's gift arrives, Jade's tempted to send the courier away. She's still upset with Jason, not just because of what he said about her store, but the way he's been acting since. She never thought their fight would go on this long, that Jason would choose to ignore her shift after shift instead of apologizing or at least trying to talk to her. Jade's the teenager and she was right. She shouldn't have to be the mature one.

[Jason treats Christmas the same way he treated his illness: with a stubborn refusal to acknowledge its existence. As the early days of December go by Christmas decoration advances like an encroaching army, throwing up multicolored lights as battle flags, but his apartment stays dark and bereft.
Christmas at the Compson Manor tended to be an exercise in family chaos, and though Jason knows there's no particular reason the day itself will be marred by that this year, he also feels no particular compulsion to celebrate the birth of Christ. As far as he's concerned, Christ never did anything for him short of setting aside a day where he had to let the servants take time off paid to go to their church and giving his mother a reason to whine about how it was the holidays when he inevitably tried to box Miss Quentin in the mouth or Ben drooled on the Christmas linens.
His apartment is, however, starting to come together in those quiet internal ways. There's furniture, now, a set of pots and pans that Percy's brought him, nice bedsheets. Seating enough for himself and company, and a table for dinner.

[Jason will open his door to the very picture of holiday cheer. Jade's carting along a small pine tree along with couple cardboard boxes full of decorations and a bag of presents. (Thank goodness for enhanced werebear strength.) She's wearing an oversized ugly holiday sweater that she definitely stole from Soeki with skinny jeans and it's so far from her usual style that it's almost the most surprising part of her appearance. Almost, because she's no longer a shade. Instead, she looks nearly human, standing out in the sun with her red hair pulled back into a messy ponytail and her golden eyes sparkling with excitement. She's a almost a half a foot taller too and though she's still pale her skin has more life to it than it has since Jason has known her.
It's obvious she's taking to her werebear changes extremely well, as she stands outside his door shifting from one foot to another in excitement. [Jade has resisted personalizing the room she was given in Soeki and Oliver's apartment too much, just in case they change their mind and realize living with a teenager cramps their style. She's not really expecting them to change their minds, but it gives her a sense of security, knowing that she can pretend it was never permanent if she has to leave.
But today, her room looks very personalized. She's moved her mattress to the ground, covered it in way too many blankets and pillows, taken fabric from her store and built an impressive blanket fort in the middle of the room. It's a den. She's created a den to enjoy on one of her last days as a werebear.
She sends out two important messages in the mid-morning and waits, sitting in the middle of the fort a thermos of peppermint tea by her side. She's still in her pajamas, a black oversized hoodie and purple pajama shorts, and her hair is messily braided to make it look less like she just rolled out of bed. She's not pretending she's not tired today, has decided to accept it and spend her day relaxing with two people she knows will understand.]

[In their discussions about their apartment shopping, Soeki and Oliver had decided quickly to stop looking at one-bedroom places and focus on bigger, roomier two-bedroom apartments. It hadn't been stated specifically, in as many words, but they both knew why they'd come so easily to that choice. Soeki's never thought of the spare bedroom as anything but Jade's room, there for whenever she wanted it.
This morning, he's dozed for a few hours since sunrise, sprawled out in his and Oliver's bed. The beep of a new message rouses him, and half in a daze, he rolls out of bed to pad the short distance down the hall. [Oliver's already given Jade one present, one he was pretty confident she would like. What should be way too much black make up seemed like a pretty safe bet when it came to Jade, but he has another gift wrapped for her.

She turns off the music, setting Soeki's phone on the nightstand to properly speak to Oliver.]

Soeki is making good on his promise to do Jade's makeup (and let her do his) and brought home a bunch of new products, including a liquid eyeliner and an assortment of brushes. He's got music playing quietly from his phone, settled in a ceramic bowl to act as a makeshift speaker.

If he's honest, he's felt it too, the creeping paranoia at the edges of his consciousness that has him looking over his shoulder every time he leaves the apartment or the clinic. He doesn't really go anywhere else besides those two places and the market, for once slightly glad that he closed the doors on U&R and therefore has no reason to travel around the peninsula. He's even had a few nightmares himself, but he tries to keep them quiet and mostly to himself. It's a bad habit, not wanting to let Jade see his weakness.
When he comes through the door, it's after sundown, and he's already shifted; into his travel form specifically, his clothes from the clinic stuffed into a bag hanging around his thick neck.
